Tailorbirds get their name because of how they make their nests. They "sew" them out of materials such as spider silk, thin twigs, etc. A tailor, sews or mends materials. So, this is how they get their names.

Tailor birds are named that because of the way they build their nests. They find a large leaf, which they pierce near the edges. Then they use weave some type of plant fiber through those holes to pull the edges of the leaf together, creating a bowl shape. They then build the next inside the leaf.

Describe one instance of irony in Rikki-tikki-tavi?

One instance of irony in "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi" is when the tailorbird praises the cobra Nagaina by saying that she is harmless and has come to protect the tailorbird's eggs. In reality, Nagaina is a dangerous and cunning snake who poses a threat to the tailorbird and her eggs. This contrast between perception and reality creates irony within the story.
