Rabbit urine grows ammonia very quickly. It's a harmful chemical -- it can lead to breathing problems for your rabbit and even for you! Clean your bunny's litter every day or two; if it's in an enclosed space (e.g. if the litter box has a lid on it), clean it every day. Completely wash out the box sometimes, too, e.g. every month or two.

Rabbits can develop odors due to their urine marking behavior, which is a natural way they communicate and establish territory. Proper litter box training can help minimize the smell. Additionally, rabbits have scent glands on their chin and around their anus that can release odors when they are stressed or scared. Regular grooming and a clean living environment can help reduce any offensive odors.

A rabbit's butt smells because it contains something known as garliqium-a strong smelling substance consisting of usually ground up greens, onion grass or hay. In the rabbit world, a bunny with an especially smelly butt is known as a greiger. Your bunny's buttock may contain traces of garliqium, hence the odor. At my house, we often say our rabbit has "ordered out Pizza" when he smells this way. His favorite is the garlic pesto special. Best of luck dealing with the odor.

All urine smells like ammonia. That's one of the main ingredients in urine.
