First two weeks calves receive milk from their mothers. Four day old calves are started on what is called calf starter which is a mix of oats, cracked corn, soybean meal, molasses, salt, dicalcium phosphate, limestone, minerals and vitamin premix. They start off with 6 ounces and then are increased in the third and fourth weeks of life. Clean fresh water is introduced at four days old. Hay should not be fed to calves until they are weaned or eight weeks old.

Kids can start nibbling on hay from a week old - they will copy their mother's behaviour but they can't be weaned until at least 12 to 14 weeks of age as their rumen needs to fully develop.
Baby goats, also known as kids, primarily consume milk from their mothers or goat milk replacer. They may also start nibbling on hay, grass, and grain as they grow older. It's important to provide a balanced diet to support their growth and development.
Baby goats should be weaned gradually by reducing their milk or formula intake over a period of 1-2 weeks while providing increased access to hay, grass, and water. This transition should be done ensuring the baby goats are consuming enough solid food before completely cutting off milk or formula. Sudden weaning can cause stress and health issues for the baby goats.
