I do however offer my newly incubated chicks a large stuffed toy in the brooder box for them to hide around and under in place of a protective mother hen. Older hens, especially the more aggressive one's, like shiny objects they can peck at. Hanging an old CD from a string in the yard will often suffice as a "Victim" of aggression and spare the more timid of the hens from abuse.
