Depends on which rainforest. Depends on whether one means strictly land mammal, any mammal or, oddly enough, bird. This is an interesting question, one which I thought should be easily answerable. It turns out there is debate. Here are some possibles:
• Although people most often are thinking of the Amazonian rainforest, there is also a rainforest in Australia. And in this rainforest, the largest animal is a bird. That bird is the formidable cassowary, as tall as, but much heavier than, a man.
• If one is considering the Amazon river as part of the rainforest then, hands down, the largest animal would be the manatee or, in the Portuguese language spoken in Brazil, the Peixe-boi. This, however, would be a misnomer, as the manatee is everything but. An individual can weigh up to half a ton and might be nearly ten feet long. A close relation is considered the responsible mirage behind the mermaid myth. Your further research into this matter is something like essential.
•?The largest land mammal of the rainforest appears to be the tapir, an animal which, although lovely, is dwarfed in size by the manatee. There are several species; if you have yet to make the tapir's acquaintance, it is recommended that you do.
• Although you did not ask, the largest rainforest rodent is the capybara. It is much larger than I am or, possibly, yourself, as it is pretty much the size of a pony.
