There are only two venomous snakes in Massachusetts - the timber rattlesnake and the copperhead. (Contrary to popular belief, there are no venomous "water moccasins" in the Bay State, only harmless water snakes.) The timber rattlesnake and copperhead are protected by law. You rarely see the timber rattlesnake.
There are no native venomous snakes in Maine. The only snake species found in Maine is the harmless Eastern garter snake. However, non-native species like the timber rattlesnake have been occasionally found in the state.
The Timber Rattlesnake has always been "The Maine Snake", but many people claim it has left entirely. I would assume there are some, but I wouldn't keep the antivenin supply shop on speed dial.
The timber rattler is "not in Maine anymore", but there may be 1 or 2. Who knows!

Again no offense.
Just the Timber Rattlesnake. Just the Timber Rattlesnake. No-there are also copperheads as well. Please see post on discussion page. According to NH's own Fish and Game website... the Timber Rattlesnake is NH's only venomous snake. It is a protected species since there is only one known population left. There are NO copperheads in NH. The Eastern Milk Snake, not venomous, is often confused as being a copperhead. http://www.wildlife.state.nh.us/Wildlife/Nongame/snakes.htm
