Cows weren't "made," they evolved and descended from ancient animals from the pre-Cambrian period. Domestic cattle themselves evolved and were selected by man (which would be artificially) from their wild ancestors being the Aurochs and Celtic Longhorns. From these ancestors, and through selective breeding, various breeds and types of cattle were formed and created, forming four main types of cattle: sporting, dairy, beef, and dual-purpose (both dairy and beef). The breed that is probably the closest-related to the Aurochs are the Spanish Fighting cattle.

Cows are domesticated descendants of wild oxen that were selectively bred by humans over thousands of years for traits like docility, milk production, and meat quality. This process of domestication began around 10,000 years ago when humans transitioned from hunter-gatherer lifestyles to agriculture. Today's cows are the result of this long history of human intervention and breeding for specific characteristics.

Man made the man-made cow, of course. The first cloned cow, Amy, was cloned in 1999 at the University of Connecticut, by a research team led by Dr. Xiangzhong Yang.
