It is difficult to provide an exact number, but it is estimated that there are tens of thousands of ocelots left in the world. They are considered a species of "least concern" by the IUCN Red List, but they are still threatened by habitat loss, illegal hunting, and fragmentation of their populations. Conservation efforts are underway to protect and preserve these wild cats.
