i have one degu i rescued from a place where they adpoted off his fellow degu separate and he was there for a while. i need to get him a new degu play mate....any places in southern maine??
Degus have a slender body with a long tail and large eyes. They resemble a small squirrel or chipmunk in shape.
It is best to get your degu a same-sex playmate to prevent unwanted breeding. Two males typically get along well, but if getting a female, make sure both degus are spayed/neutered to avoid mating issues. Introduce them slowly and monitor their interactions to ensure they get along.
Degus are native to Chile in South America. They are commonly found in the central and western regions of the country, where they inhabit dry scrublands and rocky areas.
Can degu live outside
I'm assuming that by "dagus", you mean "degu". It's pronounced "day-goo", but that's how it's spelled is 'degu'. It's a cross between a kangaroo-rat, and a gerbil. A kangaroo-rat isn't a kangaroo and a rat, it's just a type of rat just like a pitbull is a type of dog, not it's own species. A degu is a fussy animal. If you get a degu at a very young age, you can put another degu in that young from another litter, or the same litter, but they tend to bond with the owner, and don't want to share attention which is why you don't want to have a degu for a long period of time, and then put a baby, or full grown degu in that same cage. Although a degu is part gerbil, it's not a good idea to put a gerbil in the cage with it. Degu's are feisty, and just want attention from the owner. You can do this if you'd like, but I have the most friendly degu, and she was very, very aggressive when even another degu was put in her cage.

The life span of an average Degu is typically around 6-8 years of age.
A pair of degu's from pets at home is about £40.1 Degu is £25 but 2 degus are £40.
