There are a few ways to tell if a moth is dead. It will not be moving and it will have no reaction to anything.

If you have it in a container or place to hold it, if you tip it upside down, then the moth would either fall and move a bit or stick. If it sticks and moves its wings, it might still be alive, if it drops and stays still, it's dead and if it drops and moves its wings or legs, it's definetely still alive.

P.S. Trust me - these are facts, I had a pet moth once and that was exactly how it reacted. :D β™₯ ☻ ☺

My moth is sticking with its front arms to the surface but when i move it it doesnt react in anyway but still holds on, is it dead or not?

For me, a moth's antennae would still move. if they aren't moving, then it may be dead. it would also be kicking its leg around slightly, or its legs and antenna would be vibrating/shaking.

my moth isn't moving. help. it just hatched a couple days ago. it flew into a clear box. the next morning. i tried touching it and it didn't move.. does that mean its dead?
