Tortoises do not hibernate like some other reptiles. Instead, they go through a period of reduced activity known as brumation. To simulate this, ensure your tortoise has a cooler, darker area in their enclosure where they can rest undisturbed, decrease their food intake, and provide less heat and light during this period. It's essential to monitor them closely during this time to ensure they stay healthy.
you hibernate your tortoise in a 3-7 degree place like a loft or a atic or this may sound cruel (trust me its not) in a mini fridge but in a box with holes. you gradually feed him/her less.
this is a list for how long they should hibernate for.
newborn hatchings-0 weeks
1 year old tortoise-3 weeks
2 year old tortoise-6 weeks
3 year old tortoise-10 weeks
4 year old tortoise-16 weeks
5 and older tortoise-22 weeks
if your tortoise does not wake from hibernation place him/her in a tub of shallow warm water (like you would usually bathe him/her.
good luck x
If you dont want it to hibernate in the winter get a leopard tortoise because they dont.
they realy sleep in the day they sleep alot
hibernate
Tortioses do move yes, but it isn't in a concious manner. Then often twitch as humans to in their sleep but no movement is actually being made by the toriose voluntarily. There has been known cases where the hibernating tortoise has 'sleep walked', where a tortoise stumbled around even though it was hibernating. Also, they frequently relaz and tense their muscles during hibernation to get a higher comfort level.
Horses do not hibernate.

I believe that they like the warm weather and hibernate in the cold weather.
You shouldn't ! Part of their natural cycle is to hibernate during the winter months ! Why deprive a tortoise of it's natural behaviour ?
Galapago tortoise is a cold blooded reptile, which means its body temperature depends on the weather of its surroundings. On winter, like mammals, it hibernates!
Tortoises should not hibernate in straw as it does not provide enough insulation or protection. Straw can also create a damp environment which is harmful for a hibernating tortoise. It is best to hibernate tortoises in a controlled environment with proper substrate and temperature regulation.
Hibernation is during the winter, estivation is just like hibernation but in the summer and migration is when the move to different locations. So Im pretty sure that turtles hibernate during the winter and some turtles estivate during the summer if it is too hot.
I wouldn't put it out there longer than a few seconds. Normally they'd hibernate in cold weather; putting it outside would eventually freeze your cold-blooded tort.
The Galapagos tortoise
A leopard tortoise. :)
No cockroaches do not hibernate. Bugs them selves do not hibernate.
