You want to draw the owl in one swift motion from your owl scabbard. Grasp it gently but firmly by the outside of the feet and present it towards you opponent. It's wings should be either side of it's trunk, and the length of it's body should be pointed slightly above your opponent's head. Make sure it's belly is pointed towards the floor or it will likely to backfire.
When you first draw the owl it is likely to become flustered, flapping it's wings and swivelling its head in many directions in a rapid motion. This head movement is key to aiming the bird. If possible release the owl the first or second time it faces your target. Many animals have a "flight or fight" response to surprise. To combine these effectively in an owl for maximum effect it is important that you release as soon possible once aim and bird position are aligned.
