Like all cats, the meat is sliced by the cutting teeth on the sides of the mouth and swallowed whole. Cats cannot chew.
Lions, like all cats, neither have access to fork, spoon and knife, nor do they have front teeth suitable for a cutting bite similar to a human's front teeth. Thus, a lion grabs hold of a part of the animal, and tears a chunk away.

Once a chunk has been torn loose, the cat will chew on it, trying to break it up mechanically, but typically swallows pretty large pieces.
