NO: cedar bedding is not recommended for rabbits. Some studies have shown cedar bedding to be toxic for rabbits and having led to some rabbit deaths. Safe beddings for rabbits include:

  • Aspen wood chips/shavings
  • Newspaper
  • Wood stove pellets (these are pellets made from compressed paper, sold in hardware stores as a starter material for wood stoves -- do not use ones that have been treated with a chemical starter! Just the plain kind)
  • "Yesterday's News"
  • "Carefresh"
  • Hay

Vet bed is great because the urine will soak down to the bottom, meaning your rabbit won’t be lying on soiled bedding. A few days before the operation, keep a close eye on the amount your rabbit is eating

You can train rabbit to use the litter box. First, make the bedding and litter a different material. (Rabbits are tidy animals and prefer to use the toilet somewhere else). Also, you can train your rabbit to come when you call his name. First, call his name when your near him.
