Raccoons have been known to kill a number of different species, although they are omnivores and prefer to eat crops or scavenge.

Their diet includes insects, worms, fruits, nuts, corn, and, rarely, small birds and their eggs.

Wild raccoons have sharp claws and teeth, and are dangerous if they feel threatened or are protecting their young. Some raccoons have been domesticated as pets, but like many other wild pets (possums, skunks), they can cause serious injury if agitated.

Unless a raccoon is suffering from a disease such as rabies they will try to avoid a confrontation with a human. However, if cornered with no escape route, they can turn vicious quickly and do a lot of damage to a human trying to capture them.

Generally, raccoons are not dangerous unless one tries to capture one. They try to avoid confrontations with humans. However, if cornered, they can bite and claw viciously. They can also carry a number of diseases and parasites that can be fatal to humans.
