The chipmunk will usually survive with half or no tail but its movements and in particular its balancing will never be quite the way it was before. The chipmunk will get used to having half or no tail and will get used to it and start running and jumping around again, but it will never be quite the same again.

I have been raising a squirrel that was found as a baby for the last several months and as I was attempting to catch her, her tail (the fluffy part) slid off the bone. It was not much but it was quite disturbing to me. It was bloody at first but stopped quickly. I made some phone calls to people I know who are avid outdoors men and was told that this happens quite often in the wild as they attempt to get away from predators. I simply took some sterilized fingernail clippers and cut off the exposed part of the tail to encourage faster healing. I put some anti bacterial ointment on her tail to combat infection. She is doing fine, a little sore of course but no lethargy or lack of appetite at all. It happens.

Chipmunks don’t need a tail. You see, a squirrel has a huge long, tail for balance and for climbing in the trees. Chipmunks are fast, and they are considered ground squirrels for their behavior and their sly moves. They mostly have white and black strips vertically down the spine, four little hands, and dark tan to medium tan for the main coat color. Again, the tail isn’t necessary because they don’t need the balance to go on top of trees. Plus for their small body, a huge tail like a squirrels’ will give away the hiding spot fro a predator, and it could make it hard to run away because of that big tail.

No, chipmunks cannot grow their tails back. Once a chipmunk loses its tail, it will not regenerate.

The fur on a chipmunks tail is how it gets away from predators. Without the fur it is not safe.

How long does it take for a blue tailed lizard to grow his tail back?

Lizards can lose their tails, but not all lizards can grow them back.Lizards that lose their tails may grow them back but the replacement tail is never as long or as colorful as the original one. Replacement tails grow back in as little as three months or as long as two years. In Iguanas and Komodo Dragons, the tail bones are not designed to break easily and the tail muscles are also not designed to pull apart smoothly. These lizards however can also lose their tails, but it takes a much stronger pull to make this happen. With these types of lizards, the wound heals, but the tail does not grow back. The main species that are capable of regrowing their tails are skinks and salamanders. So the answer may be that your blue tailed lizard (which is likely a blue tailed skink) will grow his tail back, it will just be a while.
