I have been raising a squirrel that was found as a baby for the last several months and as I was attempting to catch her, her tail (the fluffy part) slid off the bone. I made some phone calls to people I know who are avid outdoors men and was told that this happens quite often in the wild as they attempt to get away from predators. I simply took some sterilized fingernail clippers and cut off the exposed part of the tail to encourage faster healing. I put some anti bacterial ointment on her tail to combat infection. She is doing fine, a little sore of course but no lethargy or lack of appetite at all. It happens.
