heterotroph
An elephant is a heterotroph, meaning it eats plants and other animals to obtain food. Autotrophs are organisms like plants that are able to produce their own food.
The yak is a heterotroph, meaning it obtains its energy by consuming other organisms or organic matter. Yaks are herbivores, feeding primarily on grasses and other vegetation.
An anaconda is a heterotroph. As a member of the animal kingdom, anacondas must consume other organisms to obtain energy for survival. They are not capable of producing their own food through processes like photosynthesis, which is characteristic of autotrophs. Instead, anacondas rely on hunting and consuming prey, such as fish, birds, and mammals, to meet their energy needs.
Autotrophs produce their own food (eg. plants using photosynthesis to make glucose). Heterotrophs consume organic matter to feed themselves. Therefore, squirrels (as well as all other animals) are heterotrophs.
