What would cause a hamster to bleed from its rectum?
I've heard this case many times, But you didn't give enough information about where your hamster is bleeding, it could be bleeding from the vagina, or it could just have a cut, I think that It's just going through heat when coming from the vagina, and when it's coming from the leg or body, that just means that your hamster cut themselves on something, so If i were you and your hamster had a cut: 1. Get out the smallest band-aid (a type of special tape made to wrap around the wound like a cast) just wrap it around your hamsters wound. 2. get a little box or shoe box and just get a small cloth put the cloth in the box, dump some food on the cloth and just let your hamster rest on the cloth. 3. Check cage for any types of cuttable items inside cage. If your able to find any thing, just take it out the cage, If there's blood around the cage just clean out the cage and make sure you make it spic and span. From. echub Hamsters don't experience menstruation (periods) like humans do, but it is not unusual for females to bleed from their vaginal opening once or twice in their life once they have reached maturity. The bleeding is not severe, however, so if you notice more than a few spots of blood or the bleeding persists get her checked out because it could be something more serious (such as a uterine infection or even cancer). My female hamster began bleeding when she was roughly two and I took her to the vet many times, where lengthy and futile treatments were administered. This caused stress to the hamster and did nothing to improve her condition. I'm sure that this was a once off, though. I didn't want my hamster to suffer but by possibly dragging out the last few weeks she was living in pain, I felt terrible for not having her put down or simply just letting her die. It's a judgment call you must make, considering the hamster's welfare above your own.
