USA, the two major sneakers manufacturers were Keds and Converse.
Keds, as a brand, started in 1916 and became part of the
mass-market in 1917 by the U.S. Rubber Company. Today the Stride
Rite owns the brand. Typically, Keds were for casual non-athletic
activities, while Converse were athletic.
NOTE: This division lasted for several decades but started to
"come apart" in the 1960 and came completely apart with the
introduction of other companies, such as Adidas, Puma, and
Nike.
