At this point, I believe it varies on a child's growth development individually. My son, who will be 4 next month, has already surpassed 4T, 5T and some 6's. He's in a boys Small. Now some might find that surprising, or assume he's overweight, when in fact, my son is just taller than the majority of 5 year olds. So, to solve the $150 to $200 new clothing purchase every 4 or so months, we've purchased a size too big this go around. We bought him a size 7. Now, we're going back to the long tshirt look, and rolled up pants, BUT if he continues his growing streak (gaining 8lbs and growing several inches in one year), I know I did the right thing. My advice, is to take your son to a children's clothing store and help him try on clothes. Every child is different. I know mine will make it though this batch of clothing for 7 to 8 months now. Hopefully longer! Good luck in finding what you were looking for!

When children are very young their clothing size is listed by age. A six month old wears 6M, a 12 month old wears 12M, a two year old wears 2T, and a four year old 4T, and this stops at 5T, BUT.......EVERY CHILD IS DIFFERENT!!!! Some four year olds are too tall for 4T, or too short, too skinny, or too wide. If you want to buy clothes for a four year old whose sizes you do not know, go for 5T. If it is a bigger kid, he should fit into it, and if he is smaller, he will grow into them.

The sizes on children's clothing is laughable. They label by age, but weight and height would be a better indicator. Some would say 3T (Toddler) is average, and others would say 4-6. There is a big difference between sizes at stores.

If he is average, 9-10 or 10-11, if he is tall, 10-11 or 11-12. If the boy is small, 9-10 or 7-8.

If you can, go in store, because a lot of shops have different sizes.

The average 5 year old wears size 5. But if they are big I would go with a size 6-7

normally stores do childrens clothes by age so it would be age 5.
