Of course, you can get a whole visual image, the Twilight movie has a very good, but different image (compare to the book) of the house. But to sum it up, it is a richly equipped house which is very modern and grand.

Edward and his family decided to live in Forks because it was the rainiest and gloomiest town in America, making it more possible for them to go outdoors. Vampires can not go outside in the sunshine in public because they glitter like a thousand diamonds in a way that would reveal that they were inhuman.
