Perhaps the most proper (and certainly one of the most succinct) would be 'rebus'; however, other expressive terms may include 'picture-language,' 'image-based communication,' 'hieroglyphics,' and 'graphic-speak.'

∙ 9y agoThat is called a rebus, which is a puzzle or riddle that uses pictures or symbols to represent words or parts of words. In this case, using a picture of a pigpen to represent the word "pigpen" is an example of a visual rebus.
Pigpen is the one where his hair is all over the place and makes dirt wherever he goes.

Copyright is very important. It is in place because if you made a picture of example, you want people to know that it is what you have created. By using copyright any one who would like to use this picture/ design, etc will need your permission. As it is there design, you can't 'nick' it.
