Utopian socialists hoped to reform society by creating small, self-sufficient communities based on principles of equality and cooperation. They were intentional communities created to perfect American society and had become institutionalized in American thought by the 1840s. Various groups, struggling under the pressures of urbanization and industrialization, challenged the traditional norms and social conservatism of American society

Foremost he hoped it would topple the Provisional Government and allow the Bolsheviks to impose a socialist society on the country. Next he hoped that it would inspire worker revolutions in the other industrialized countries such as Germany, England, France and the United States so that communism could spread worldwide. Lenin created the Communist International organization to foment communist uprisings in other countries.
Lenin hoped the Russian Revolution would start Communist revolutions in other countries. That was one reason he created the Communist International. He wanted the Bolsheviks to have an active role in fomenting Communist revolutions in as many other countries as possible.
Planners hoped it would improve the quality of life and reduce crime.
Robert Owen demonstrated his ideas about socialism by founding the utopian community of New Harmony in Indiana in 1825. Owen hoped to create a communal society based on cooperative living and equality, where residents could work together for the common good. While New Harmony ultimately failed as a long-term experiment, it influenced later social movements and experiments in communal living.
