Yes, the name Jonas is a variation of the name Jonah. In the Bible, the prophet Jonah was commissioned by the Lord to proclaim judgment upon a sinful city. Also, Gabriel announced the coming of Jesus Christ who saved all the people of the world. Jonas was leaving the community to both change the Community and to save Gabriel. He was sacrificing him self for a better life of Gabriel and all the people of the Community.
