well we cant go thru every war before ww2 but ill tell a couple ww1 obviously the crimean war. That would be basically every single war.

----------------------------------

Ok mostly for fun Wars with a major effect on the global situation only - this is probably a bit subjective, Western Europe centric and I'm doing it mostly from in my head.

China - (1901-1950) - Various Revolts, Invasions, Civil Wars, start WW2 in 1936!

Palestine Revolt (1936-1939) - Sets up the Middle East for the future!

Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) - Like an overture to WW2

Russian Civil War (1917-22) and other wars around it - Creates USSR, Communism, Various small States escape from collapsed Russian Empire to become Soviet Republics in USSR

World War One (1914-1918) - The biggest one, completely rewires the world, German, Ottoman, Russian, Austrian Empires all Collapse, USA as a world power, Britain on the way down, Japan as a growing power, France exhausted

Russo-Japanese War (1904-05) - Russia humiliated, Japan an emerging power, only major war to feature pre-dreadnoughts

2nd Boer War(1899-1902) - Important for Britain to learn from, also the last "war for Empire".

Franco-Prussian War (1870) - Ends French Hegemony on mainland Europe, leads to German unification and Empire

Austro-Prussian War (1866) - Ends Austrian Influence in German states.

Crimean War(1853-56) - Not that important, but pretty famous, has Charge of the Light Brigade, stops the Ottoman Empire collapsing just yet.

Italian Unification (1830's) - Makes Italy from all the smaller Italian States.

French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars (1792-1815) - Completely rewrites the rule book for wars and changes the whole map of Europe, destroys the Holy Roman Empire, Prussia an emerging great power.

American War of Independence (1775-83) - Creates USA, lets everyone stick the boot in to Britain.

Seven Years War - (1750-57) - Establishes British Dominance in India and America, basically starts the "modern" British Empire

War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48) - Changes the political map of Europe

War of the Polish Succession (1733-1738) - Not really about Poland, moves a lot of markers around.

War of the Spanish Succession (1701-1714) - Prevents Spanish/French Unification, Gets everyone warmed up for the Austrian one.

Northern War (1700-1720) - Russian becomes a major power, mostly at the expense of Sweden and Poland-Lithuania

War of the League of Augsburg (1688-1697) - France vs Everyone, results broadly in a Draw, but secures Britain as a Protestant nation geared against France, and finished French centralisation.

Great Turkish War(s) (1667-1700) - String of wars that push the Ottomans out of central Europe.

Wars of the Three Kingdoms (English Civil Wars) (1642-51) - Creates "Constitutional Monarchy", sets up framework and ideas for a running string of wars over the next 300 odd years.

Thirty Years War (1618-1648) Massive war of religion and politics in central Europe, Big gains for France and Sweden, breaks the power of the Holy Roman Empire - eventually leading to unification!, Weakens the Catholic Church, tidies up a lot of things left over from the middle ages.

I'm not going back any further, besides my knowledge gets patchy from here on back.
