Queen Isabella I was born in 1451 in Castile, Spain. She was a devoted Catholic, and her schooling was limited. However, she was a very bright intelligent, woman. When her father died, her half-brother Henry became king, and at the age of 13, Isabella was brought to his court. (She learned about court affairs there.)
Against her brother's wishes, Isabella married Ferdinand of Aragon in 1469, and when her brother died 5 years later, she and her husband ruled over a unified Spain.
