When firing a high powered rifle or a shotgun there can be a very powerful recoil. If the rifle is not held tight to the body it can slam into the body, both giving a good bruise and lowering the accuracy of the shot.

Will a bullet travel the same distance straight up that it would horizontally?

No. The horizontal distance depends on how close the the ground the gun is. From the firing position, a bullet dropped to the ground will strike the ground in the same time as a bullet shot horizontally forward.

What will happen if you shoot a bullet but the bolt did not fully close yet?

The term is cartridge (bullet is the part of a cartridge that comes out of the muzzle) The condition is known as "out of battery firing", and it is very dangerous. At a minimum, the cartridge case will explode. The gun may be damaged or destroyed, the shooter could be injured or killed.

Do bullets pop when passing over head?

No, they whistle. The pop heard when firing a rifle is partly the sound of gas exiting the barrel after the bullet is out and partly the crack of the bullet breaking the sound barrier. This happens close to the muzzle, so unless you were sitting at the feet of person firing, the pop would not be anywhere near over your head. You are more likely to hear a whistle than a pop, if anything at all.

What happens in hospital after you're gun shot?

Depends. They will clean the wound, attempt to locate the bullet by XRay. IF the bullet is not in or close to something important, they may decide to leave it there. Otherwise the patient would undergo surgery to remove the bullet, close the wound.

How spinning of bullet occurs in a rifle bore gun?

Spiral grooves are etched or cut into the inside of the barrel. These grooves are called rifling. As a lead bullet moves down the barrel, it heats and expands slightly. The edges of the bullet catch in the grooves and the bullet spins. The spinning motion helps the bullet to maintain a straighter course. A projectile that does not spin will begin to curve or tumble, wasting energy and moving off course. The spinning projectile keeps the nose end in front so that the bullet stays close to the target. You can actually see the effect of the spinning by firing tracer bullets at a target at least 100 yards away. The dye on the surface of the bullet leaves a visible spiral in the air which can be observed for a few moments if the light is right.

To check for bullet diameter. how do you slug a bore?

have a gunsmith do this, push a slug of close dia through the rifle, and micrometer the bullet. this will give the true bore size.
