I have told it is a Ward's "Western Field' ( Fabrique Nationale),EJN-757 "Deluxe Mauser",.30-06, - I was also told that FN is a Browning company
Need a specific model. Mauser has a very long history and continues to make firearms, not to mention the number of rifles based on the Mauser G98 action which are referred to as "Mausers", although most of them weren't made with any licensing from Mauser.
It means they began making that MODEL of Mauser in 1895. You will need to have someone that knows older Mauser makes a hands on assessment of your rifle. Value depends on make, model, condition- and with military riles, originality- modifications lose value.
If it is a ww2 mauser, the maker & the date made will be stamped on the top of the breech. it will look something like this bnz 43 for a mauser made in 1943 by maker bnz The caliber is 7.92 mm or sometimes referred to as 8mm mauser model 98 means it was made in 1898 and it shoots a 7.9mm or 8mm round i have one with the serial number 4101 also known as Gew 98
There are several different models of Mauser rifle. Can you do anything to identify the model, arsenal it was manufactured at, and/or the nationality of the rifle? That it was made in 1946 does nothing to answer this question.
These are the same as the Heym-made rifles and are the same as the Mauser 2000 or Mauser 3000. Made in the 1960's. Worth $300-$400.
