The M-16 and AR- 15 popularly known as the "Armalite" rifle, is a weapon invented by Eugene Stoner as a substitute for the traditional automatic infantry rifle that is too heavy because of some components made of wood. In the 50's The United States Army was looking for a lightweight survival weapon that would not compromise firepower. After several prototypes from Stoner the M-16 was born.
