The LeMat revolver (notice I spelled it differently?) was made from 1856 to 1865. In 1985, the Pietta company in Italy began making modern reproductions of the LeMat.
If you search for LeMat in Wikipedia, there is a good article on this very interesting handgun. The Virginia Historical Society has a LeMat carbine (short rifle) on display at their museum in Richmond VA.
