For a home owner the best way to store ammunition is inside a gun safe. Preferably in the climate controlled living area.
Only buy ammunition that matches what is printed on your barrel. There are a few exceptions but that is the general rule.
Look on the barrel, it will be marked as to the proper ammunition.
