aThe AMT Combat 1 of 1000 Hardballer handgun was produced in a limited quanity of NO MORE than 1000 pcs in the early 1980's. They were produced AS they were ordered and all 1000 of them may not have been produced prior to AMT changing ownership. I have one of these with a VERY early serial number (014x) that was my father's that he had ordered VERY early in production around 1980-1981. It has some feeding problems that will be rectfied by a gunsmith. VERY nice gun and action aside from that.
I too bought one of these AMT Combat 1 of 1000 Hardballers in 1980. (#034x). Only problems I encountered were the hammer and disconnector "galled." I also dumped the "twin safeties" as they tended to come apart while shooting. Replaced these components with new Colt parts, single safety, ported slide, and fitted slide to frame with very fine lapping compound. Took it out next day and fired 900 rounds thru it non stop. Muzzle end was buried in powder residue. No malfunctions. I have fired 1000's of rounds thru this pistol with "0" malfunctions and excellent accuracy since I modifed it back in 1980. The pistol will also feed wad-cutters 100% of the time. I CCW this pistol to this day without worry of problems.

It depends on which model or brand you are talking about. Some hold 5 or 6, some hold as many as 14.
Probably. It would likely refer to a handgun that fires a .45 caliber ACP, or .45 GAP or an older .45 caliber revolver round.
