If you know how to and have the resources, attempt to put it out if it is small (the size of a small trash can). If it is large,get away from the area in a quick but orderly fashion and allert others/fire department.
If you are ON FIRE because you failed to correctly do the previous instructions, try to take off whatever clothing is on fire if you can do it quickly. If not, drop to the ground, roll, or jump into a body of water if available.
Another VIew: The correct procedure is to call 9-1-1 or an emergency number for the fire department IMMEDIATELY. Do NOT attempt to fight a fire first. After you make the call if you feel that you have the knowledge and resources, make an attempt to fight it, but if it even appears that it will get away from you, EVACUATE the building immediately.
