$500 - $550 new in box, give or take.
The average cost of a Glock 40 in June 2013 is $550. This is the price for a pre-owned gun. The price of a new model can be obtained from a local gun store.
In a normal sized handgun, not much. It is like a .45 acp being shot out of a Government model 1911. But in a small lightweight concealed carry type pistol, the .40 has a pretty good kick that can bother new shooters. It even bothered me enough that I chose a 9mm as my primary carry pistol even though that same make and model of gun could also have been bought in .40 caliber for the same price. I chose the 9mm after firing two identical guns in 9mm (Glock 26) and .40 s&w (Glock 27) on the same day at the range.
