Yes your shotgun is completely safe I have 3 of the model 583's that i shoot quite often a 583.17 12gauge a 583.3 20 gauge and a 583.18 16gauge. there is a voluntary recall on the 12 gauge model where u can return the bolt for a $50 sears gift card. But the truth is there is nothing wrong with this gun and no reason for the bolt recall just make sure to keep your bolt stop screw tight and you will be just fine it seems someone lost this screw pulled the bolt back and hit themselves in the face then sued sears and this is why they issued the recall. So as long as you keep this screw tight you will be just fine and wont hit yourself in the face with the bolt.
