if the shell was big enough the mortar could take out a tank with a few rounds...
Either identify and describe the rifle real well so that a person who can't see it could take a guess (and if it is a JC Higgens, I can save you the effort, because the answer is "Not very much") or you could take it to a gunsmith or collector to have it appraised.
The DE does not take clips.

With .303 ammunition the Spit could fire about 750 rounds in 5 seconds. Since there were only 2400 rounds total it didn't take long to use them all. I do not have the info for cannon armed Spits but those in service at the end of the war carried enough heavy mg and cannon shells to fire for approximately 1.5 mins.
1500 give or take.
Only one bullet is fired at a time from any machine gun. Some machine guns fire more bullets per unit time than others, but they all fire only one bullet at a time. The cyclical rate can vary from 400-450 rounds per minute to 6000 rounds per minute.

if 45 acp is not stamped on the barrel of your rifle then it could be chambered for the 45 long colt cartidge which would be longer and with a different rim at the base of the cartridge. 45 acp rounds were made originally for auto loading pistols. to be on the safe side you should contact a knowledgable gun dealer with this question. DON`T take chances. shooting ammo in a gun that it is not designed for can be extremely dangerous.
