The first three numbers Sears code identifies the maker. Insome cases Sears actually was in fact the maker For instance any gun marked 583 means house brand exclusive Sears product .583 (High Standard Manufacturing )High Standard Was owned by Sears & Roebuck 1947 to 1963 . All shotguns 22 rifles and revolvers marked 583 were the licensed property of Sears not High Standard.High Standard made no shotguns or rifles except for Sears .Next Vendor codes 103 =Marlin Firearms 101= Savage arms corp105 =H&R In the case of vendors They pretty much sold there regular product with Sears name on it with what ever changes that Sears wanted,usually to give a Sears Identity or meet a price point.

Talk to the company that made the gun. See if they have replacement parts on hand. I suggest you take the gun to a gun shop to have it identified. JC Higgins is just a brand name used by Sears. The guns and rifles were made by Mossberg, Savage, Remington and other gun companies. They put the JC Higgins name on the guns for Sears to sell. A good Gun shop will recognize who made the gun.

Both Crosman and Daisy made airguns for sears under the JC Higgins brand name. Any sears model air gun that started with 126 was made by Crosman. Any air gun model starting with the numbers 799 was made by Daisy. Here is an Example: Sears model 126.10294 was made by Crosman and is really a Crosman model V350

Sears never made any guns. They were private labeled for Sears by gun manufacturers Sears guns are usually almost identical to a manufacturer's model, but I believe this particular one was made by Hi Standard to Sears' specifications and there was no equivalent gun with the manufacturer's name.
