yes , i have done this, i couldn't find a 3 inch slug barrel so i put on a 2 3/4 inch one and it worked fine, but Remington said no, guess that's their liability answer.
All 12 gauge shotguns with 3-inch chambers or 3.5-inch chambers can fire such rounds. The list of makes and models of such shotguns would be very long.
The difference is that the Remington 1100 3 inch mag will take three inch mangnum loads and shorter where one that doesn't say 3 inch on the barrel will only take two and three quarter inch shotshells or smaller.Trying to put a three inch inch a gun that is not designed to will cause extreme stress on the barrel and will get jamed in a pump or automatic shotgun.

It will fit on the frame but the action will not function with 3 inch shells.
Yes sir they will, the 870 will cycle both 2 3/4 and 3 inch shells. make sure to look on the receiver when you get it. 2 3/4....2 3/4 to 3 inch and 3 and 3 1/2 inch
Sorry- Remington rifles are dated by a 2 or 3 LETTER code stamped on the barrel, left side, half inch from receiver. Not by a serial number.
