Wayne LaPierre is the Executive Vice President of the NRA, and is really the head of the organization. The President of the NRA is elected by members, and is generally a figurehead position of little real responsibility.

No, he is not. You are possibly referring to a quote by the new president of the National Rifle Association, who accused President Obama of being a "fake president." This is simply "Birther" talk-- about 20% of Republicans insist the president was not born in the United States, and is thus an illegitimate or fake president. However, this is nonsense. While it is certainly the privilege of the new head of the NRA to say whatever he wishes, Mr. Obama is as much of an American as he is, and his birth in Hawaii is very well documented. Thus, his presidency is quite legitimate, since he was elected twice, by a majority of voters.

The National Recovery Administration (NRA) was the primary New Deal agency established by U.S. president Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) in 1933.
Charlton Heston, the NRA President at the time, exclaimed "From my cold, dead hands!" when presented with a rifle at a 2000 NRA convention.
In 2008, The NRA gave $662,982 to Republicans in the House and $156,150 in the Senate which comes to a total of $819,132. The NRA also spent $4,129,788 for the Republican party via independent expenditures (ads made without the approval or knowledge of the candidate) and communication costs (internal political messages aimed at members of an organization or union or possibly even company executives).
That's sort of a vague question, but generally speaking, Democrats are as split as the rest of the country on what to do about guns. Obama has signed every piece of NRA supported legislation that has come to his desk. Many Democrats are NRA members and many support positions that the NRA would not agree with.
