Windsurfing is generally a very safe sport. It is practiced by millions and there are very few deaths associated with it. However, there are dangers depending on the conditions in which you participate. These include hypothermia, drowning, concussion and broken bones. These dangers mostly occur when windsurfing in extreme conditions that include high wind, big surf and shallow reefs. For those who windsurf on mildly windy days on lakes and other protected bodies of water, these risks are quite minimal. Dangers can be minimized further by getting good instruction, staying close to shore, and getting out of the water when the the wind, weather or surf conditions are beyond your abilities.
there is no age limit on windsurfing
you do not need a windsurfing license to windsurf but you can get RYA certificates in windsurfing as proof of your skill in windsurfing. there are instructor licenses that you must have in order to instruct windsurfing however
it started when they learned how to make board's for windsurfing. which was probaly about the 1700s
