Some shops allow part trading, however, the Nintendo DSi does not need Nintendo DS parts. Gamestop is currently offering the trading of the DSL for the DSi. If you trade in your DSL then you can get $70 towards the DSi (which is currently priced at $170). :) Yes that is right but the deal is no loger avaible!!!
the dsl ( ds lite) doesnt have a camera, internet, or a sound mixer, or a store online for more apps for the dsi (like the wii shop)
Nope. Sadly, you cannot because some of the games require a camera, the internet, etc. The DSi can play all Nintendo DS and DSL games, however.

You actually can. However, the DSi users can have a bunch of different colors (to write with), and the Nintendo DS does not have those. So, Warning: Unless you do not get jealous easily, do not Pictochat with a DSi user using your DSL. ;)

If you're asking about Pictochat, then yes. Aside from the fact that the DSi has a bit more features than the DSL, you can chat with them. The DSi can connect with all of the Nintendo DS models.
