It really depends on how much money you want to spend and whether you like high definition stuff. I don't have a Wii U, but in my opinion it is probably not very fun because it is more or less like a Nintendo DS with that touchscreen and stuff. I really like Wii because it already has a lot of fun games, but they might stop making them soon. It depends on whether you want the latest console, whether you like HD games, and whether you want a giant touchscreen built into your controller.

Wii games can be played online with the Wii U. However, there should be no difference in the connection quality between the two systems.
The are many differences between the Nintendo wii u and the Nintendo wii. The Nintendo wii u has better graphics, larger storage space and it is slightly bigger in size. However the biggest difference is that the wii u comes with a gamepad and supports chat.
