That depends, of course. Some artists (a very few) manage to make a living working independently and selling their "pure" art. They have near-complete artistic, creative freedom and can create their own schedules as well. Most graphic artists work on computers these days. They design graphics for Web sites, layouts for brochures, images for advertisements, etc., etc.
