3 red rings means that there is a motherboard problem and can be recovered if fixed correctly. Now if goes to 4 the Xbox is Fried and cannot be fixed or recovered(And each ring line stands for something different from file load fails to over heating which can lead to the mother board being fried). But the way to fix this problem is to go to a game stop and see if you can have the Xbox fix or were you can go to fix it.

Yes, it did over heat, but there's one thing to know if you Xbox 360 is continuing to remain in this state... For some reason Microsoft that it would be smart to put the processor's under the motherboard of you'res truly xbox being the cheapo (no offence) that Microsoft is they designed to make it the hardest place to get to.
Because of the new Xbox consoles, red rings no longer are an issue. If you own the new slim Xbox 360 models, red rings will probably never occur. I've owned a slim model for about 2 1/2 years and I've had no problems yet.
