Which class is better than another class is totally dependent on what you are wanting to do with it. Once that decision is made, then it comes down to your play style, and finally how good you are at each class.

For example, a really good rogue can beat a decent warrior any day, then again, that same warrior once he gets better gear and better at his class could just possible beat the rogue.

It mostly comes down to gear, and skill, not which class is better.

Various races provide abilities that can be useful for Rogues, depending on whether you are Alliance or Horde, and whether you prefer PvE or PvP.

Alliance

Worgen provide a 1% Crit bonus and have effectively another Sprint button. They also make natural Skinners, which helps with Leatherworking, a profession taken by many Rogues.

Another solid choice is the Night Elf, which moves quicker when Stealthed and has Shadowmeld as an emergency escape in addition to the normal Rogue toolbox.

Gnomes can escape from snares, Humans have a bonus to Reputation gained and get extra Expertise with Maces and Swords, and Dwarves can turn to stone and are natural Archaeologist. However, these races offer less benefits directly to the Rogue class. Gnomes and Dwarves can make tough PvP Rogues, however.

Horde

Goblins gain a rocket boost which can also be used to fire missiles, and have a 1% increase in attack speed. They also make good Alchemists, but this is not directly useful to the Rogue class.

Trolls can go berserk, increasing their speed, and have exceptional mobility and skill with throwing axes. They also recover a bit of health during combat through Regeneration, but this is not all that much.

Forsaken can consume corpses for health, and can breathe underwater for a long time. Will of the Forsaken allows them to escape mind-affecting effects. For a long time, Forsaken were the best race for rogues, but changes to their abilities made them second-best.

Blood Elves can silence opponents with Arcane Torrent, and are good at Enchanting. Orcs can go berserk for bonus attack power and get extra Expertise with axes. Even so, these races are less suited for the Rogue class.

For PvP, the best races are generally said to be the Goblin on Horde side and Gnome on Alliance side.
