This port was supposed to be where the CD upgrade platform of the system, known as the 64 DD (disk drive), was going to connect. Unfortunately the upgrade never made it out of Japan and only a few are actually available.
Gamecube controller ports are located on the top panel of the Wii console. A rectangular tab can be lifted up to reveal the Gamecube controller ports plus another tab adjacent to the ports can be lifted to reveal Gamecube memory card ports. However newer versions of the Nintendo Wii are not backwards compatible and do not support Gamecube devices. If the Wii is not backwards compatible and a Gamecube layout is desired, consider using a Wii-classic controller instead.
No, there is only ports for GameCube controllers.
you plug it in to the bottom of the gamecube!!!!
Yes. The original Wii has ports for four Gamecube controllers and two memory cards at the top of the system. Gamecube controllers can be used to play Gamecube games as well as certain games that support it. (Such as Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mariokart Wii.) As of Auguest 20th, Nintendo has announced a "family version" of the Wii that will not include Gamecube controller ports. Though a launch date has not been announced, those buying a Wii in the future will need to make sure they buy the correct model if they are looking play Gamecube games or use their controllers in general.
Yes there is a panel on the top of the Wii that you must open to access the gamecube ports.
The Gamecube has ports for 4 controllers so four people can play at once.

I was looking for the same thing as i bought the newer version without the Gamecube ports, by the looks of it you can't...
Yes you can use the gamecude controller. When I play with my brother or at video game club they use the gamecube controller.
There is an accessory you need to buy called a game boy player. It clips onto the bottom of your gamecube and has a slot for gameboy advance games.
I know that in the origional -- for gamecube -- there is a power berry, and at the bottom of the lake cave is a lake of sorts to fish.
At the top of your Wii base unit is a door. Inside of this door are two ports into which you plug the sending unit which once active communicates with your wireless Block Head Controller. I hope this helps you out. Goodness knows it took me a while to find this and figure it out. Good luck, and happy gaming. Best regards, Jim Carter
