The standard size was 27 inches and the programs were aired in color. However, many people were still in the process of transitioning from antennae that were typically mounted to the side of the house or top of the roof, to what is now known as cable TV.

Remotes just started making their way onto the market in the early 80's however you need to purchase a TV that worked with a remote. Prior to that, you had to get up off your couch, walk over to the TV, and change the channels manually using a rotating knob. Channel Surfing was a bit more tideous way back in the prehistoric days of the 80's.

Big screen TVs were just beginning to be available for purchase and you could get a 42 inch for about $5,000.
