Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 retails for approximately $14. One may be able to purchase a used copy for less money than this via the Amazon Marketplace or via the eBay website.
The best is Elite Flight simulator, but this is a PRO product with a PRO price. All the software is purchased in modules, then comes the hardware, and a full setup will easily cost as much as US$10 000. For the rest of us, Microsoft's FSX (Flight Simulator 10), is about as realistic as it gets in all aspects except the price.
The actual price of the training courses would vary dramatically, based on the type of aircraft you are interested in learning to fly, and length of courses.
