There are 255 levels in the 2nd and you can only open the third mine by getting to the last level. You can fall at the most 10 floors at a time. You must destroy all of the creatures to dissolve the rock blocking the room to the Legendary Sword on the 255th floor. In the English version Keria hands you the sword in the Japanese version it's lying on the ground.
