Sim points may be purchased from The Sims 3 Online, and some retail stores (ex. Best Buy) sell Cash Cards for $10. EA has given no indication that Sim points may be "earned" within the game at some point in the future.

In 2011 you can buy specially marked Dr. Pepper bottles Please see code under the cap or inside packages of specially marked Dr Pepper products. This promotion ends 12/31/11. Request Free Codes by 12/31/11 @ http://www.drpepper.com/promotions/ea/. Redeem by 1/31/2012. A code gave me a free download , I think all caps do. Many EA Game downloads available to choose from. The first time you enter a code you set up a login it takes a few minutes, after that you can redeem new codes very quickly.

Well there are 2 ways.

1: When you buy The Sims 3 (Base Game; and possibly some of the expansion packs) and then you register it to the website, you get 1000 simpoints free. I had a problem with that because I bought The Sims 3 Plus Pets Limited Edition. I tried to install to my PC, but the code for The Sims 3 (not pets; base game) and I had to call to get a new The Sims 3+Pets (digitally; no disk) and then I didn't get my simpoints. So I called a second time and got the 1000 simpoints. (It took a long time because the guy didn't have any idea what I was talking about)

2. When one of your friends (from thesims3.com) buys a simpoint bundle (The 1000 or 2000 simpoint bundle) you get simpoints (100 simpoints for the 1000 simpoints bundle and 300 simpoints for the 2000 simpoints bundle). When one of your friends gets the 1000 simpoints bundle you also get the "QB and Cheerleader Set". (Yes; for free; and with the 100 simpoints for you) and when one of your friends gets the 2000 simpoints bundle you get "The Divalicious Set" (Also for free; and with 300 simpoints for free)
